OPPORTUNITIES to serve

At Talbot Park, we are always seeking ways to reach beyond ourselves to care for others in our neighborhood and around the world.  Every year, the church participates in a variety of outreach and mission projects:
 

• Volunteering and collecting canned food items for the Southeast Virginia Foodbank.
  
• Distributing backpacks and school supplies through ForKids.
  
• Partnering with Oceanair Elementary School by hosting a monthly birthday party, tutoring students, and providing teacher support.
  
• Serving dinner for families at the Ronald McDonald House every last Sunday of the month.
  
• Donating Thanksgiving dinners with The Storehouse Ministry in East Ocean View.
  
• Serving dinner and supporting college students through the Old Dominion University BCM.

• Sponsoring an alternative gift fair for local businesses that support fair trade and sustainable ministry initiatives.  

Other ministries we support include the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Tidewater, Union Mission, Habitat for Humanity, and the HER Shelter.   

Our beautiful church buildings allow us another means of ministering in our community.  Talbot Park houses the offices for the Virginia Children's Chorus.   We also host two weekly meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon.  In November 2013, Norfolk Chinese Baptist Church began sharing our facilities for their meeting space and we enjoy the partnership between our two congregations.   

As  Baptists, we believe we can accomplish more for God's kingdom by working with others than we can on our own.  For that reason, we support a variety of mission organizations including the Bridge Network, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia, Virginia Baptists, and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.  Through these organizations, we are able to support missionaries and ministries around the world.  These partnerships do not restrict our local church autonomy, but they do allow us to reach more people with the good news.  By enthusiastically sharing our money, our time, and our talents, we move beyond the walls of our church building to truly become the body of Christ.
